Community of Emmanuel
The Emmanuel Community ( French: Communauté de l'Emmanuel ) was formed in 1976 from a prayer group of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal founded in 1972 by Pierre Goursat and Martine Catta (née Laffitte) .
organization
According to canon law, the community is a public international association of believers under papal law. It includes women, men and married couples as well as priests and consecrated sisters and brothers . Its aim is to answer the call to holiness addressed by God to all . This is particularly done through an attitude of worship , compassion and evangelization , through which the members want to realize in daily life what the name "Emmanuel" ("God with us") means.
Among them are about 240 priests, about 100 seminarians and about 200 consecrated brothers and sisters. She is a member of the Catholic Association of Charismatic Federal Communities and Associations . It is subordinate to the Vatican Authority for Laity, Family and Life .
On January 1, 2018, the Vatican authorized its own clerical community, according to which deacons and priests can be incardinated directly into the community.
Evangelism and institutions
- The Emmanuel Community is also entrusted with parishes by bishops, initially in France and later in other countries. In Germany there are such parishes in Nuremberg , Münster , Munich and Cologne . Pastoral care is normally carried out by at least two priests who are supported by brothers and sisters in the community (married couples, young people and celibate sisters and brothers).
- FidesCo is an aid organization founded in 1980 by the Emmanuel Community.
- The community organizes youth meetings every year, for example the Forum des Jeunes in Paray-le-Monial , France, or the International Forum in Altötting .
- The community has four evangelism schools where young people receive nine months of training in theology , spirituality and evangelism . The schools are in Paray-le-Monial , Rome , Altötting and Manila . There is also a preparatory college in Vienna in which students from all fields of study live together and which follows a spiritual program.
- Every year the community carries out several one-week parish missions in Germany and Austria; in May 2009 it organized the Regensburg City Mission.
