Sergio Barbero

Sergio Barbero (born January 17, 1969 in Sala Biellese ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Sergio Barbero began his career in 1993 with the Navigare-Blue Storm cycling team . After two years he switched to Carrera Jeans and after another two years there to Mercatone Uno . There he won his first race in 1997, the Giro di Toscana . He had his most successful year in 1999, winning the one-day races Giro del Lazio , Tre Valli Varesine and the Japan Cup . He then moved to the Italian racing team Lampre . In 2002 and 2003 he won the Japan Cup again and last year he also won the Coppa Bernocchi . Barbero has been driving for the Colombian Professional Continental Team Selle Italia-Diquigiovanni since 2006 .

In 2001 Barbero was suspended for six months for doping with Epo after the Tour de Romandie .
