education and profession

Meutgens has long been associated with cycling. He was an amateur driver until the mid-1980s. The owner of the Trainer A license was also an honorary trainer in the North Rhine-Westphalia Cycling Association and a speaker in the trainer training of the Association of German Cyclists . As a freelance journalist, he worked in the fields of sports, medicine and health. He works part-time in the editorial team of the program "Monitor" and works as a journalist for Arte and Deutschlandfunk. He was a member of the cycling editorial team of SAT.1 .

Position on doping

Meutgens is considered a sharp critic of the structures of cycling. "Doping is inherent in the system," he told spiegel-online.de, "cleaning would require the replacement of almost all people involved in professional cycling".

For the purpose of a more effective prosecution of doping sinners, Meutgens is in favor of an anti-doping law, such as that in Italy or France. In addition, Meutgens criticizes a lack of critical distance some media representatives from the active. In particular, the cooperation between the T-Mobile team and ARD provoked his criticism.
