Bandy World Cup
Bandy World Cup is an international bandy tournament for professional teams (men's teams ) held annually from 1974 to 2008 in the Swedish city of Ljusdal and since 2009 in Sandviken . It's the largest of its kind in the world.
The first tournament was held in 1974, then under the name "DAF Cups". the Dutch automobile company DAF was the main sponsor at the time. Over the years the tournament has been held under different names, mostly according to the current main sponsor:
- since 1974 - " DAF -Cupen"
- since 1976 - " Dex -cupen"
- since 1980 - "Dex World Cup"
- since 1984 - "World Cup Ljusdal"
- since 1986 - " SJ World Cup"
- since 1999 - "Ljusdal World Cup"
- since 2004 - "Polar World Cup"
- since 2005 - " ExTe World Cup"
In the early years, the tournament still had problems finding enough teams to take part in it. Today, in addition to the main tournament, there is also a B tournament for teams from countries (e.g. USA , Canada , Hungary , the Netherlands ) in which bandy sport has only a more recent history and the teams are not yet well established.
