history

The association was ecumenical, with the Catholics making up the greater part. The founding period was shaped by the first president - the Australian Brian Smith - who was supported by the Texan Bobbie Cavar . On 30 November 1990, the composite received from the Pontifical Council for the Laity , the decree of approval to an international association of the faithful of pontifical right.

The association strives to fulfill the church's missionary mandate together with the Pope , for this purpose it unites the Catholic charismatic communities into an ecumenical association. It sees itself as an association of members who faithfully receive the charisms given in the spirit of the Holy Spirit . This also means loyalty to the understanding of the church, preservation and adoration of the sacraments and the express veneration of Mary, the Mother of God . In order to carry out their tasks, the fraternal communities work together with many ecclesiastical communities and movements and are also committed to a lived ecumenism.

Organization and expansion

At the diocesan level, the “charismatic communities”, which must be approved by the diocesan bishop , form the basic work. The local bishop has no judicial power, but takes on pastoral and spiritual responsibility. The Catholic Fraternity is not a hierarchically organized association, rather the affiliated communities see themselves as a federation of organizations . The member communities send their delegates to the general assembly, who see themselves as a representative council. During the 16th World Conference in 2014, the delegates were received in an audience by Pope Francis . This council meets every two years and is chaired by an elected president, and an executive committee is elected from the council. The Catholic Fraternity has 99 member communities and associations spread across 14 countries worldwide, including Asia 2 countries, Europe 5 countries, North America 2 countries, Oceania 1 country and South America 3 countries. Under his leadership, the association has set up theological and pastoral training centers, it heads radio and television stations for evangelization , looks after retreat houses and carries out projects for education and catechesis . In addition, the members work on programs for youth and young adults within their parishes , in schools and universities , with evangelization always in the foreground.
