Federation (organizations)
The cooperation of organizations can take the form of a federation (from the Latin foedus , foedera : contract, pact), which is organized like a political federation : The organizations retain their independence and work together on an equal basis and largely autonomously in the achievement of common goals. The opposite of federalism is centralism . If a federation is an organization, it can also have the character of an umbrella organization .
Examples of federations are
- international cooperation between largely independent national associations (e.g. FIFA , European Transport Workers Federation , European Federation of Psychological Associations )
- the national cooperation of organizations that have common goals and join forces to achieve them - but otherwise work autonomously, e.g. B. Federation of German Psychological Associations , Federation of Swiss Psychologists
