The Federation of German Psychological Associations is a federal association of the Professional Association of German Psychologists (BDP) and the German Society for Psychology (DGPs) as a scientific association in the field of psychology. This merger was necessary because only one association per country can represent the subject of psychology in numerous international bodies and there are numerous coordination tasks between science and practice (professional guidelines, ethical guidelines, quality assurance) at national level. The accreditation of further education curricula is also one of the tasks of the federation. The legal form is that of a GbR .

The joint board of the federation consists of the presidents and one further board member from both member associations. The presidency changes annually, in the even years the BDP holds the presidency, in the odd years the DGPs.

The federation is a member of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), the European Federation of Psychological Associations (EFPA) and the International Test Commission (ITC).
