European Federation of Transport Workers

The European Transport Workers Federation (ETF) is a European trade union federation founded in 1999 and the European wing of the ITF , which represents more than 5 million workers in the transport industry in over 230 unions in 42 countries and is based in Brussels .

The ETF, made up of free, independent and democratic European trade unions , represents workers in the transport , fisheries and tourism sectors .

In addition to its clear orientation as a lobby organization and recognized social partner in the European legislative process, the ETF also plays a central role in the development and support of trade unions in Central, Southern and Eastern European countries. A dedicated coordination office has been set up for this purpose. All ETF bodies, agencies and affiliates take into account fair and appropriate representation of women workers.

The President is the Belgian Frank Moreels, the General Secretary the Portuguese Eduardo Chagas.

The 5th ETF Congress took place in Barcelona from May 24th to 26th, 2017 .

Goals of the ETF

  • represent the social and economic interests of workers in the transport, fisheries and tourism services sectors;
  • to promote practical international cooperation and joint actions;
  • to observe and act so that the European unification process leads to progress for workers through the introduction of higher social standards;
  • advocate for equal treatment, prevention and elimination of discrimination based on sex, age, race, sexual predisposition, disability or religion;
  • support the work of the ITF and the ETUC.
