history

The GPF came into being immediately after the decision to found the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions in April 1945. Confidants gathered to set up a trade union for post and telegraph workers in Austria. On May 24, 1945, the board of the union of the postal, telegraph, telephone and radio companies in Austria was constituted. The then provisional central secretary Edmund Holzfeind presented the tasks:

  • Stand up for an independent and democratic Austria
  • Participation in the establishment of the company and the further organization of the company in terms of a purpose-oriented social economy
  • Representation of material and cultural interests
  • Development of the basics of social law, collective agreements and works council activities

In the 1970s it was the reduction of working hours or the Labor Constitution Act, which came about with the help of the GPF. Finally, in the new millennium, the "New Severance Pay" and the first-time conclusion of a collective agreement for leased workers were negotiated.
