The Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft ( EVG ) is a German trade union that was formed on November 30, 2010 through the merger of the transport union GDBA and Transnet . Like Transnet before, the EVG belongs to the DGB . It is also a member of the European Transport Workers Federation and the International Transport Workers Federation .
history
From a legal point of view, the new union was formed on November 30, 2010 according to the statutory resolutions of the predecessor unions. The political establishment took place on December 1st, 2010. Since then, the EVG has been led by an executive board , who acts on a voluntary basis.
When it was founded, the union had around 246,000 members, including 216,000 members of Transnet and 30,000 of the GDBA. In 2011, the number of members fell by about five percent. At the beginning of 2012 the union counted around 220,000, at the end of 2018 187,396 (146,737 male, 40,659 female) members.
On November 12, 2019, Torsten Westphal replaced Alexander Kirchner as chairman of the union after nine years . On April 22, 2020, Westphal resigned from the chair “for personal reasons”.
About the EVG
The EVG is represented as a political organization in both Frankfurt and Berlin. 32 regional offices and other local associations are available to members.
Since December 2010, the union has been publishing a monthly membership magazine for members called EVG imtakt .
activities
2018 collective bargaining round
On December 8, 2018, the EVG called on its members to go on a warning strike on December 10. At Deutsche Bahn , all long-distance traffic was suspended nationwide between 5 and 9 a.m. The warning strike caused numerous delays in national rail traffic, in isolated cases across national borders. Deutsche Bahn called on the EVG to resume collective bargaining .
