The traffic union GDBA was a union in the German Beamtenbund (dbb - beamtenbund und tarifunion) with seat in Frankfurt am Main . It merged on November 30, 2010 with the DGB union Transnet to form the Railway and Transport Union (EVG).

information

The union was founded in 1948 as a union German Federal Railways officials and candidates established (GDBA) and merged on 30 November 2010 with the trade union Transnet for Railway and Transport union (ECG). During the time of its existence, it represented the employees of Deutsche Bahn AG , the Federal Railway Assets (BEV) of the Federal Railway Authority (EBA) and the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) as well as employees of other private transport companies. In addition, employees at the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See (DRV KBS) and the BAHN-BKK . Due to the participation of Deutsche Bahn in Arcor , employees were also organized there.

There was a collective bargaining association with the DGB trade union Transnet since August 2005 . With the union of German locomotive drivers , which is also part of the dbb beamtenbund and tarifunion , the Deutsche Bahn no longer has a collective bargaining community.

organization

The transport union GDBA had 5 regions as a subdivision:

At the regional level, there were around 300 local groups with over 3,000 shop stewards.

At the organizational level there were committees and working groups that represented the special interests of the various professions within general trade union work. In addition, the women and the elderly had their own representations so that the special interests of these groups could be brought to bear in trade union work.

There were overlaps with other dbb unions in the organizational structure . The Social Insurance Union (GdS) was also active in the DRV Knappschaft-Bahn-See area .

The youth organization of the transport union was the gdba-jugend.

International

The transport union GDBA had been a member of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and the European Transport Workers Federation (ETF) since 2005 .

DBB exclusion and withdrawal

Due to the changed framework conditions at the railway, the GDBA had spoken out in favor of a merger with the largest German railway union, Transnet . For this reason, it was decided at the extraordinary trade union day on December 10, 2009 to set up a new transport union “within the next 12 to 18 months” together with Transnet.

Since the GDBA no longer had the German Civil Service Federation , but the German Trade Union Federation as the umbrella organization in this new union , the DBB also excluded the GDBA on December 10th, removed all GDBA committee members from DBB committees and blocked access to the website and GDBA membership file.

In the days that followed, the DBB wrote to GDBA members telling them that they no longer enjoyed legal protection from the DBB. The GDBA filed a criminal complaint against the DBB for use of the internal GDBA membership file in violation of the contract. Such a dispute had never taken place in the union camp before. The chairman of the GDBA also wrote an open letter to the chairman of the German train drivers' union . However, the latter very sharply rejected the request for solidarity and raised allegations against the GDBA chairman Hommel.

The Berlin Regional Court issued an interim injunction on December 20, 2009 , according to which the DBB has to reverse all steps and the GDBA remains a full member of the DBB until the merger with Transnet. The DBB announced the appointment .

In preparation for the merger of the unions, general meetings of the GDBA were held in ten cities. The trade union days of Transnet and GDBA decided on November 30, 2010 in Fulda to merge the two unions to form the new railway and transport union (EVG).
