purpose

Kapers, as the cabin crew union, aims to represent, promote and safeguard the common interests of all members and, if necessary, support them. In addition, it aims to promote Swiss air traffic in general as well as cooperation with similar domestic and foreign professional associations and work organizations.

Emergence

Kapers emerged in 1971 from the merger of the then gender-separated associations of Swissair Hostesses (VDSH) and Swissair Stewards (VDSS). The first major goal of kapers at the time was to enforce equality between men and women. In the following years, kapers' role was essentially limited to negotiating the working conditions of the cabin crew with Swissair . After what was then Swissair transformed into a group (SAirGroup) and incorporated various other Swiss aviation companies ( Balair / CTA, Crossair ), kapers' area of responsibility expanded. In addition to representing the concerns of Balair flight attendants, kapers and the "Crossair Flight Attendant Association" (CFAA) joined forces in July 1999. This ensured that kapers was able to represent the interests of all cabin crew members of the airlines that are part of the SAirGroup.

After the collapse of SAirGroup and Swissair in autumn 2001, kapers made sure that a substantial part of the cabin staff of Swissair continued to be employed by Swiss , which was founded in March 2002 .
