In 2017, VR-Bank Chattengau eG and VR-Bank Schwalm-Eder Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG merged to form today's VR PartnerBank eG . In 2013 the bank celebrated its 150th anniversary.

The VR-Bank Schwalm-Eder traces its beginnings to the loan association to Melsungen back, which was founded on 30 November 1863 by 16 people, and from 1942, the People's Bank Melsungen and 1978 by merger with Raiffeisenbank Melsungen the Volksbank + Raiffeisenbank Melsungen eG was . In 1994 it merged with Raiffeisenbank Gensungen eG , which had emerged from the Gensungen loan association founded in the 1880s , to form VR-Bank Melsungen-Gensungen eG . The Volksbank Raiffeisenbank + Homberg was built in 1974 from the merger of Raiffeisenbank and Volksbank. A predecessor institute was the advance and savings bank association eGmuH founded in Homberg in 1889 . In 1952 Volksbank Fritzlar was founded, which in 1989 merged with Raiffeisenbank Fritzlar to form VR-Bank Fritzlar eG . In 1998 Volksbank + Raiffeisenbank Homberg merged with VR-Bank Fritzlar eG and VR-Bank Melsungen-Gensungen eG to form VR-Bank Schwalm-Eder Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG .
