Location of the community of Malsfeld in the Schwalm-Eder district | ||
Malsfeld is a municipality on the Fulda in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .
geography
Neighboring communities
Malsfeld borders the cities of Felsberg and Melsungen in the north, the municipality of Morschen in the east, the municipality of Knüllwald in the south , and the town of Homberg (Efze) in the west (all in the Schwalm-Eder district).
structure
The community consists of the districts Beiseförth , Dagobertshausen , Elfershausen , Mosheim , the core community Malsfeld, Ostheim and Sipperhausen .
Beiseförth
Although it was first mentioned in a document as "Beysenvorte" in 1348, it is estimated that the town was founded in the 8th century. In 1603 "Beysenfort" became a fiefdom of Philipp von Scholley . Until about 1870, shipping on the Fulda with Kassel and Hersfeld was just as important a source of income as linen weaving and later basket weaving .
The former climatic health resort used to be frequently visited by workers from the Ruhr area who were sent to Beiseförth by their companies to relax. In the summer months there were often more visitors than residents in the village.
The ship house at the mouth of the Beise , the basket-making museum and the cable car for pedestrians and cyclists across the Fulda are all worth seeing .
Dagobertshausen
According to a legend, the name Dagobertshausen derives from the Frankish king Dagobert I , who is said to have turned the tide at this place in 631 . However, this name has only been officially used since 1747, before that "Dabelshusen", "Dageboldishus" and "Taboldshusen" were also in use.
Dagobert I is said to have donated a church, where the fortified church built around 1400 now stands.
Elfershausen
Elfershausen is first mentioned in 1253, as the whole place from the Viscount of Felsberg the convent Breitenau was made a gift. After the Reformation , the place became the property of the landgrave . Since 1770 the "Domain Elfershausen" also included parts of Dagobertshausen; the domain was dissolved in 1971. The amalgamation of Elfershausen with Malsfeld was the beginning of the later "Greater Malsfeld", which was formed as part of the local government reform.
The Sälzerweg , a trade route between Leipzig and Frankfurt , runs north of Elfershausen. The inhabitants of Elfershausen were mainly active in agriculture.
Mosheim
Mosheim is the oldest part of the community of Malsfeld, which has existed since 1974.
The village has about 480 inhabitants. With its new development area, it is designed for growth. Many roads were renewed after a modern sewer system was built. As part of the village renewal program of the state of Hesse, Lindenplatz received a village well. The memorial was given a new place. With green spaces, the place has a new look. More than 30 independent companies and tradespeople are based in the village.
The image of the center of Mosheim is still dominated by rural farms, although only a few farms are still run by full-time farmers. The stables that have become vacant are increasingly being used by horse lovers as shelters. The people of Mosheim maintain social and cultural life in the rural women’s club, the Tauber club “Mosenberger Bote”, the sports club TSV Ost-Mosheim and the still young Heimatverein. The volunteer fire brigade has training and recreation rooms. The village community center offers space for family celebrations, club meetings or assemblies in several rooms.
Malsfeld
Malsfeld is the largest town in the municipality in terms of population. The town hall is also located here. It is now almost directly connected to Beiseförth via the Fährberg.
Ostheim
Ostheim was first mentioned in a document between 1145 and 1159. Basalt was mined in quarries , as was lignite in opencast and underground mining.
Sipperhausen
Sipperhausen lies between Homberg / Efze and Melsungen . It is first mentioned in a document in 943 as a deserted "Swidburg", then in 1142 as "Swipergehusen". The district also includes the settlement Bubenrode , a manor first mentioned in 1407, which was divided into five individual farms in 1956.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in the 12th century.
On February 1, 1971, joined in the course of administrative reform in Hesse municipalities Elfershausen and Malsfeld merged to Malsfeld together . On April 1, 1972, Dagobertshausen was added. On 1 January 1974, the municipalities Malsfeld, Beiseförth, Mosheim (was powerful state law county Fritzlar-Homberg ), Ostheim and Sipperhausen (county Fritzlar-Homberg) for new large community Malsfeld together . At the same time, Malsfeld moved to the newly established Schwalm-Eder district. Malsfeld was designated as the seat of the municipal administration. Local districts were set up for all formerly independent communities .

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on June 26, 1981 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
Blazon : "In the blue shield, the gold-armored and red-tongued Hessian lion , divided seven times by red and silver , which rests its left paw on a shield, in it in gold two red ostrich feathers facing away from each other."
The depiction of the Hessian lion with a red top stripe is unusual. There are therefore also coats of arms depicting the "usual" Hessian lion (with a white uppermost stripe),
flag
The flag was approved on April 30, 1986 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
"Between the narrow blue side stripes a wide golden central track, which is covered in the upper half with the municipal coat of arms."
