geography

The municipality of Neuental lies east of the Kellerwald in the valleys of Schwalm , Gilsa and Merrebach between Borken in the north-northeast and Schwalmstadt in the south. In the far north of the municipality, near the district of Römersberg, with the mountain Altenburg (433 m above sea level ) is the highest mountain in Neuental.

Neighboring communities

Neuental borders the municipality of Bad Zwesten in the north, the city of Borken in the east, the municipality of Frielendorf and the city of Schwalmstadt in the south, and the municipality of Jesberg in the west (all in the Schwalm-Eder district).

The community consists of the eight districts of Bischhausen , Dorheim , Gilsa , Neuenhain , Römersberg , Schlierbach , Waltersbrück and Zimmerrode (seat of the municipal administration).

history

The municipality of Neuental was created on December 31, 1971 as part of the Hessian regional reform through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Bischhausen (first documentary mention: 1160), Dorheim (1205), Gilsa (1209), Neuenhain (1149), Schlierbach (1193), Waltersbrück (1230) and Zimmerrode (1209). On January 1, 1974, Römersberg (first mentioned in 1231) was added as the eighth district by virtue of state law.

mayor

Kai Knöpper ( FDP ) was elected on September 25, 2005 with a share of 64.2% of the votes. In the election on August 14, 2011, Knöpper was confirmed in office with 82.3% of the votes; with two opposing candidates, the turnout was 63.2%. On January 1, 2018, Philipp Rottwilm (SPD), who was elected as the new mayor on September 24, 2017, took office.

Culture and sights

A popular destination is only a few dozen meters north-west of the municipality is located at the boundary between the northern neighboring communities Borken and Bad Zwesten Berg Altenburg (433 m. U. NN. ) Above Römerberg with an observation tower and the remains of the same Celtic ring wall Altenburg .

In the east of the municipality, near the Neuenhain district, is the Neuenhainer See , a natural bathing lake with a campsite that was created from the Borken lignite opencast mining .

Sports

The SG Neuental / Jesberg are important sports clubs in the Neuental community. The Celticman triathlon has been held annually at Lake Neuenhainer since 2008 .

traffic

Neuental is on the Main-Weser Railway . The districts of Zimmerrode and Schlierbach are stops on the Regiotram line Kassel - Treysa .

The Neuental motorway junction between the districts of Bischhausen and Waltersbrück marks the current end of the A 49 Kassel - Borken - Neuental. The federal road 254 Homberg - Fulda runs east of the community (approx. 4 km from the district of Neuenhain), to the west (approx. 3 km from the district of Gilsa) the federal road 3 Kassel - Marburg .
