Zimmerrode is the administrative center and, with around 1,200 inhabitants, the largest district of the Neuental community in the Schwalm-Eder district of Hesse .

location

Zimmerrode is about 6 km (as the crow flies) southwest of Borken between the valleys of Schwalm in the west and Merrebach in the east. To the south-east of the village is the Zimmerröder See , an open- cast mine from the Borken brown coal area . The lake should be completely filled by 2016 and designated as a nature reserve.

State and district roads lead from Zimmerrode to the neighboring towns of Bischhausen in the west, Römersberg in the north, Nassenerfurth in the northeast, Haarhausen and Neuenhain in the east and Waltersbrück in the south. The Neuental junction of the A 49 is about 3 km.

Zimmerrode has had a train station on the Main-Weser Railway since 1850 , which is now served by the Hessian State Railway Line 98 Kassel - Frankfurt . The branch line to Gemünden that branched off in 1911 was closed in 1972.

history

Zimmerrode was first mentioned in a document in 1209 as Cimannerot . Until 1359 the place belonged to the court Waltersbrück . Later it was fiefdom of the von Gilsa family for centuries . In the Landgraviate of Hessen , Zimmerrode was assigned to the Borken office and from 1821 to the Fritzlar district .

The community of Zimmerrode was on December 31, 1971 in the newly formed community Neuental in the course of the Hessian regional reform . As the largest district and the economic center of the surrounding villages, Zimmerrode was designated as the seat of the municipal administration.
