Neuenhain is the easternmost part of the community Neuental in the Hessian Schwalm-Eder district . The place has about 260 inhabitants.

location

Neuenhain is located at about 205 to 215 m above sea level on a slope that slopes slightly from south to north and is traversed by several brooks that flow into the upper reaches of the Olmes , which flow past the site to the east . The place is on the road from Zimmerrode to Frielendorf , direct neighbors are Zimmerrode in the northwest, Dillich in the northeast, Todenhausen in the southeast and Dorheim in the southwest.

About half a kilometer north of Neuenhain is composed of a opencast mine of Borken lignite mining area formed about 5  hectares large Neuenhainer lake , which is used for bathing. Since 1970 there has been a recreation center with a campsite and various sports facilities on its banks.

history

Neuenhain was first mentioned in 1149 as Niuheim . Since the end of the 16th century the place belonged to the Borken office and from 1821 to the Homberg district , which in 1932 became part of the Fritzlar-Homberg district (renamed the Fritzlar-Homberg district in 1939). On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community of Neuenhain was incorporated into the new community of Neuental.

In the east of the district of Neuenhain, on both sides of the Olmes, south of the K 53 district road, is the desertification of the medieval Ulmes pottery settlement , which is still reminiscent of the field name “am Ulmser Holz”.
