The Olmes is a right or eastern tributary of the Schwalm , which runs entirely in the area of the Schwalm-Eder district ( Hesse , Germany ).
geography
The Olmes rises in the southeast of the Neuental municipality about one kilometer south of the Neuenhain district on the northeastern edge of the Waltersberg . Its source is about 235 meters above sea level. Between Neuenhain and Dillich the stream flows in a north-westerly direction and reaches the area of the city of Borken . Shortly before Haarhausen, the Olmes flows through an artificial pond, which is an open- cast mine in the Borken brown coal field . Between Haarhausen and Nassenerfurth, the only left tributary of the Olmes, the Merrebach, flows into it . Here the Olmes turns in an easterly direction. It then turns in a north-easterly direction until it continues to flow in a westerly direction at Nassenerfurth . After Nassenerfurth, the Olmes reaches the Borkener See , from which it is separated by a narrow strip of land and which it flows around to the west, to pivot in a north-easterly direction at Trockenerfurth . Near the core Borken the Olmes pivots again in northern direction it to the mouth in the Schwalm at Gombeth maintains.
On its way through the municipality of Neuental and the town of Borken , the Olmes overcomes a height difference of around 55 meters and is around 11.1 kilometers long. The catchment area of the Olmes covers an area of 48.091 km².
