Edermünde is in the north of the Schwalm-Eder district, south of Kassel . The community consists of the districts of Besse , Grifte , Haldorf and Holzhausen . The municipal administration is located in the centrally located district of Holzhausen.

The district of Besse nestles against the Langenberge towering in the Habichtswald nature park to the west , Grifte lies directly west of the confluence of the Eder and Fulda, Holzhausen lies on the Hahn basalt peak, and Haldorf lies a little above the Edertal. The municipality is traversed by the western Eder tributary Pilgerbach . The first village community center in Hessen was built in Haldorf in 1951.

Neighboring communities

Edermünde has a short border to the community of Schauenburg in the extreme northwest , to the north to the city of Baunatal (both in the district of Kassel ), to the east, with the Fulda or Eder as the border, to the community of Guxhagen , to the south to the city of Felsberg and in the southwest and west to the city of Gudensberg (all three in the Schwalm-Eder district).

history

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Edermünde was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Grifte, Haldorf and Holzhausen am Hahn (officially: Holzhausen a. Hahn). On January 1, 1974, Edermünde and the previously independent municipality of Besse were merged by state law to form the new large municipality of Edermünde .
