Edermünde is a municipality in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district at the confluence of the Eder in the Fulda .
geography
Location and districts
Edermünde is in the north of the Schwalm-Eder district, south of Kassel . The community consists of the districts of Besse , Grifte , Haldorf and Holzhausen . The municipal administration is located in the centrally located district of Holzhausen.
The district of Besse nestles against the Langenberge towering in the Habichtswald nature park to the west , Grifte lies directly west of the confluence of the Eder and Fulda, Holzhausen lies on the Hahn basalt peak, and Haldorf lies a little above the Edertal. The municipality is traversed by the western Eder tributary Pilgerbach . The first village community center in Hessen was built in Haldorf in 1951.
Neighboring communities
Edermünde has a short border to the community of Schauenburg in the extreme northwest , to the north to the city of Baunatal (both in the district of Kassel ), to the east, with the Fulda or Eder as the border, to the community of Guxhagen , to the south to the city of Felsberg and in the southwest and west to the city of Gudensberg (all three in the Schwalm-Eder district).
history
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Edermünde was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Grifte, Haldorf and Holzhausen am Hahn (officially: Holzhausen a. Hahn). On January 1, 1974, Edermünde and the previously independent municipality of Besse were merged by state law to form the new large municipality of Edermünde . No local districts were established.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on November 18, 1980 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.
Blazon : "A silver, four-leaf clover in the red shield under a raised silver wave cap."
The municipality chose a heraldic representation of the confluence of the Eder and Fulda rivers in the shape of a wave goblet as the coat of arms, the four districts of the municipality are symbolized by a four-leaf clover. The Hessian colors red and white were chosen as the colors.
The design of the coat of arms was in the hands of the Bad Nauheim heraldist Heinz Ritt .

Edermünde has had a partnership with the South Tyrolean municipality of Terenten since 1989 .

- Hahn: From the basalt dome of Hahn ( 255.8 m above sea level ) in Holzhausen there is an excellent view of the surrounding area. The way to the plateau was restored by wooden houses in 1999 and 2000 and is therefore easy to hike.
