Grifte is a district of the municipality of Edermünde in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse . The village is located at the confluence of the pilgrim stream in the Eder . On June 30, 2004, 2027 inhabitants lived on the 550 ha area including 22 ha of forest.
history
Grifte was mentioned for the first time in 1081 as "Grifethe" in the catalog of donations from Archbishop Siegfried von Mainz to the newly founded Canonical Monastery in Hasungen . In 1342 , Ekkebrecht von Grifte was born in Grifte Castle , first mentioned in 1258 and probably quite modest , which belonged to the Lords of Grifte as landgrave-Hessian feudal lords . The castle stood on the slope not far from the church and in 1649 it had already fallen into disrepair. Two walls with three rectangular doors and with slits on the outside, remains of a large Gothic building immediately north of the church, are probably remnants of the former castle. The lords of Grifte died out in the male line in 1597 with Kurt von Grifte, and their castle was obviously no longer used, except as a quarry.
From January 1946 to September 1947 there was a Jewish community in Grifte with displaced persons from the village.
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Edermünde was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Grifte, Haldorf and “Holzhausen am Hahn” . On January 1, 1974, Edermünde and the previously independent municipality of Besse were merged by state law to form the new large municipality of Edermünde . No local districts were established
