Hansjörg Hofer

Hansjörg Hofer (born April 14, 1952 in Stumm im Zillertal) is an Austrian Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Salzburg .

Life

After graduating from the archbishop's private grammar school Borromäum , Hofer studied Catholic theology at the University of Salzburg and the University of Innsbruck . After his ordination on June 29, 1976 in Salzburg, the Archbishop of Salzburg, Karl Berg , appointed him his private secretary and ceremonial at Salzburg Cathedral . In 1979 he received his doctorate theologiae in Salzburg . He was a cooperator in Hallein and from 1984 pastor of Mittersill and Hollersbach . In 1992 he was appointed Chancellor and Personnel Officer of the Archdiocese of Salzburg in the Episcopal Ordinariate . Hofer has been a member of the Salzburg cathedral chapter since 1992 and as a cathedral chapter he has the right to vote in the appointment of the Salzburg bishop's chair. Through Pope Benedict XVI. was appointed prelate (" papal honorary prelate ").

Archbishop Alois Kothgasser SDB appointed him vicar general on September 1, 2006 , keeping the agenda of the personnel officer of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, and thus succeeding Johann Reissmeier .

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Abziri and auxiliary bishop in Salzburg on May 31, 2017 . The Archbishop of Salzburg, Franz Lackner OFM , donated him the episcopal ordination on July 9th of the same year . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Alois Kothgasser SDB and the Bishop of Feldkirch , Benno Elbs . His motto is Ad Christum . Hansjörg Hofer has been representing the Austrian Bishops 'Conference on the Board of Trustees of the church's "Victim Protection Foundation" since November 2018 and is responsible for the professional group of sextons on the part of the Bishops' Conference .
