General

Programs

The Science Busters try to make science interesting and understandable for the general public through a humorous presentation and at the same time to organize a colorful theater show. To this end, the natural scientists are questioned by the cabaret artist Puntigam on certain issues. The programs, designed by up to seven people, also include experiments carried out on stage, musical interludes and the show visually supported by a VJ .

With their programs they can be seen on stages throughout the German-speaking area. Since 2011, they have been designing their own TV program on ORF eins and 3sat , which is also available on DVD. You are also present on the radio ( FM4 ), are creating a podcast and are the authors of several popular science books and audio books.

Cast of the Science Busters

Founding members of the Science Busters (from left: Werner Gruber, Martin Puntigam, Heinz Oberhummer)

In 2005/06 Heinz Oberhummer, Werner Gruber and Martin Puntigam started at the Technical University of Vienna under the motto "Science in Films" and examined films for scientific plausibility. From 2007 the three then appeared under the name “Science Busters” in the Rabenhof Theater in Vienna and described themselves as the “sharpest science boy group in the Milky Way”.

Heinz Oberhummer died on November 24, 2015 in Vienna.

Even before Oberhummer's death, the Science Busters brought new scientists into the ensemble under the name “Science Busters & Friends”, after which and since Gruber's departure in spring 2016, they have appeared as Science Busters with a new, larger cast. Florian Freistetter , Günther Paal (as Gunkl), Helmut Jungwirth , Elisabeth Oberzaucher , Martin Moder and Peter Weinberger play as the “ Kelly Family of Natural Sciences” at the side of Martin Puntigam . In some cases also the American physicist and time travel specialist Ronald Mallett . The world premieres of the Science Busters took place and are taking place at various theaters, including a. the Orpheum Graz , the Rabenhof Vienna, the Posthof Linz , the Mainzer Unterhaus or the Wiener Stadtsaal .
