Stadtsaal: auditorium and stage

The Stadtsaal ( spelling STADTSAAL ) is an event location in Vienna's 6th district Mariahilf on Mariahilfer Strasse , which was opened on January 3, 2011. It is located in a former ballroom that was built in 1870 and is intended to provide a stage for German-speaking cabaret artists, musicians and book authors.

History of the hall

The last place where the "Verein für Konsumenteninformation" had its seat was the inn "Zum Blaue Bock" (later "Englischer Hof", then Monopol, Savoy and finally Münchnerhof), which had a popular ball, concert and assembly hall.

The Gumpendorf Workers 'Education Association was founded here on December 8, 1867 , one of the most active and strongest organizations in the early days of the Viennese workers' movement. The constitutional law, which came into force on November 15, 1867, opened up new opportunities for the young labor movement to organize after years of illegality. Immediately after the law came into force, a meeting was called on December 8 to establish a Viennese workers' education association. This meeting was prepared by the existing workers' committees in Gumpendorf and Schottenfeld, the centers of the Viennese textile industry. The influx, however, exceeded even the wildest expectations. The hall was far too small for the approximately 3,000 participants. The meeting therefore had to be postponed and took place a week later, on December 15, in Schwender's Coliseum. The meeting on December 8th is still considered to be the founding date of the Gumpendorf Workers' Education Association, which was probably the first of these associations in Vienna.

The Electrotechnical Association of Austria, Association of German Electrical Engineers, Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering organized the 2nd entertainment evening on Tuesday, January 15, 1901, in the large hall of the Hotel Savoy (Englischer Hof). Entree per person was 3 crowns.

In 1911 Franz Aufischer took over the hotel and renamed it "Münchner Hof".

The Soviet zone, on the other hand, insisted on film approval and a percentage of 50% film screenings of Soviet origin or film screenings until 1955. Soviet lending; Nevertheless, one was rather relaxed about violations - it mostly stayed with warnings. This year, the Austrian Kinemathek Museum was presented in the Volksbildungshaus Alsergrund (in 1951 it moved to the “Münchnerhof” hotel in Mariahilf.)
