Mayo Thompson (born February 26, 1944 in Houston , Texas) is an American musician and visual artist.

In 1966 he founded the avant-garde band Red Krayola with Frederick Barthelme and Steve Cunningham . In the early 1970s he lived in New York City, where he worked as a studio assistant for Robert Rauschenberg . In 1970 he released his only solo album, Corky's Debt To His Father, on the Texas Revolution label . It was reissued by Drag City in 2008 . Disaffected by the American art scene, he moved to London and joined the artist group Art & Language . On his initiative, the Red Krayola released an album together with Art & Language in 1976 under the name Corrected Slogans. In the 1980s he was a member of Pere Ubu's band . In 1983 he worked with the musicians Dieter Moebius and Conny Plank . The collaboration with Albert Oehlen began in the 1980s . He is also involved in albums by Sven-Åke Johansson and Rüdiger Carl .

From 1998 to 2008 he was a professor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena .
