Ladytron is an electropop - band that in 1999 Liverpool , United Kingdom was founded. The name Ladytron comes from a song on Roxy Music's first album .
Band history
When Ladytron released their highly regarded debut album 604 in 2001 , there were already a number of imitators who were also working with 1980s-inspired electronic sounds. Ladytron always managed to stand out from the crowd and in 2002 brought out the somewhat darker sounding album Light & Magic . The song Seventeen became a worldwide hit. The subsequent one-year tour made Ladytron internationally known.
Another album should follow immediately after the tour, but Emperor Norton Records , the record company with which the band was under contract, broke up in 2004. The album Witching Hour was therefore released on the Island Records label.
In the spring of 2007 they partially served as the opening act for the Nine Inch Nails on their European tour.
At the beginning of June 2008 the album Velocifero was released . With the new long player, the band switched to the record company Nettwerk , with which they are still under contract today. Velocifero was recorded in Paris and was their most successful album to date. In 2009 Ladytron toured North America with The Faint . Two special shows, in which Brian Eno was part of the party, also took the band to the Sydney Opera House in 2009 .
The tour resulted in the live album Live at London Astoria 16.07.08 , which was pressed and released in the same year limited to 1000 copies. It was later also released as a download.
The preliminary single for their compilation Best of 00-10 , "Ace of Hz", was already available as a download at the end of 2010. The best of album followed in March 2011. The standard edition contained 17 and the deluxe edition 33 titles as well as an 80-page booklet.
The fifth studio album Gravity the Seducer was released on September 9, 2011. This was preceded in May 2011 by the single White Elephant .
A call for crowdfunding of a sixth album has been offered on the pledgemusic.com website since 2018 .
style
Ladytron's music is characterized by simple, easy-to-understand structures and is reminiscent of the often minimal music of the early 1980s. Some songs also offer additional elements, e.g. B. a guitar track.
The members of Ladytron used to appear on stage in uniforms and were thus strongly reminiscent of the appearance of Kraftwerk . Since their album “Witching Hour”, women have appeared in futuristic clothes, while men wear T-shirts and jeans . This style was inspired by Blade Runner .
Trivia
On August 8, 2008, the Flash animator Jonathan "Jonti" Picking (best known by his Internet pseudonym "Weebl") published a cartoon from the "Weebl & Bob" series on his website, with which he created the Ladytron music video for Destroy Everything You Touch parodied. At the request of the Ladytron manager Tim, the video had to be taken offline.
The song Runaway can also be heard in the computer and console game FIFA 09 from EA Sports . The song Ghosts is also included as background music in Need for Speed: Undercover and LittleBigPlanet 2 and can be heard in The Sims 3 on the custom music. For the latter, three other exclusive tracks that can only be heard in The Sims 3 were composed : Rockfalls & Estuaries , She Stepped Out of the Car and Young Etruscians .
Sugar (Jagz Kooner Remix) and Fighting In Built Up Areas are part of the Need for Speed: Carbon soundtrack . In FIFA 11 , the song Ace of Hz is included.
In addition, songs by Ladytron can be found in numerous films and series. a. Playgirl on the soundtrack of the second season of the American TV series The L Word .
