V2 records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

V2 Records is a British record label founded in 1996 by Richard Branson after he had sold Virgin Records to EMI a few years earlier . In 2005 part of the label was sold and merged with Artemis Records , the rest went to Universal Music in 2007 .

In addition to releasing records from their own bands, V2 also licensed albums from other independent labels such as City Slang and Luaka Bop . The most successful releases of the company include albums by Moby and the White Stripes , the musical range includes not only emotional rock music such as Nada Surf , Elbow or Eskobar and singer-songwriters such as ( Aimee Mann or Brendan Benson ) but also bands that fall out of the usual spectrum like that Electronic duo Underworld . Other important artists on the label are Gang of Four , Bloc Party , At the Drive-In , dEUS , The Blood Brothers and, since 2006, Alkaline Trio .

2005 sparked Branson V2 North America from the V2 Music Group out and sold it for 15 million dollars at the Sheridan Square Group. In January 2007 this new constellation - V2 North America merged with Artemis Records - underwent a 'restructuring': a large part of the employees was laid off, the artists under contract released. In the future, the label intends to limit itself to the catalog, digital distribution and the gospel section .

In 2006, Branson sold 95 percent of the company to Investbank Morgan Stanley before being sold to Universal Music in 2007 . In 2013, V2 will be taken over by Play It Again Sam for £ 500,000 .
