The Mayor of the Night is a pop group from Hamburg.

History and style

The Mayor of the Night was founded in 2012 by the artist and poet Fynn Steiner and the multi-instrumentalist Joachim Franz Büchner as a duo. The collaboration between the two comes from the Krautzungen collective, which unites artists from the fields of photography, literature and music, among others. Steiner and Büchner made their first appearances as Mayor of the Night with the support of backing tracks that were developed in close collaboration with Pascal Fuhlbrügge . He also produced the debut album In Champagnerlaune , which was released in October 2015 on Fuhlbrügges label Hand 11 .

A Zeit Online review by In Champagne Mood describes the album's music as follows:

"The Dadaism of Palais Schaumburg or the avant-garde punk of The Fall as a model are constantly breaking out: the keyboard and guitar are thrashed with oblique chords, disco beats drift away, the hooklines rub against the unruly vocals."

Other critics see the band in the tradition of the so-called Hamburg School and referred to it as "Hamburger Schule 2.0" or "Hamburger Schule 3.0".

After Mikroboy won Tobias Noormann as a drummer in 2014 , The Mayor of the Night played a series of concerts in October of that year as the opening act for the Hamburg band Die Sterne . For the joint tour, a 7 ″ single was released on Materie Records with the songs Welt auf Bierschaum and Es ist wie es ist , in which star singer Frank Spilker sings along. The single was sold exclusively on tour and is out of print. In June 2016 the line-up was completed by Fabio Papais on bass, since then the former backing tracks have been completely dispensed with.

Events

On December 22nd, 2015, the band organized a 24-hour concert with numerous guests in the Hamburg Astra Stube . A second 24-hour concert took place on December 8, 2017 in the Fleetstreet Theater in Hamburg. Together with an exhibition in the Melike Bilir gallery , the event accompanied the production of the second album, Much Fun in the Future , which was released on March 1, 2019. For the publication of the work, the third 24-hour concert took place from March 2-3, 2019, also in the Fleetstreet-Theater .

In March 2018, The Mayor of the Night provided the musical accompaniment for the catapult surrender . The production on Kampnagel was Gregor Schuster's thesis as a director at the Hamburg Theater Academy .
