Marcus Wiebusch (born July 19, 1968 in Heidelberg ) is a German singer , guitarist and songwriter . He became known as the front man of the indie rock band Kettcar and co-founder of the independent label Grand Hotel van Cleef .

Life

Marcus Wiebusch made his beginnings in music in the punk bands Die vom Himmel Fellen and Utell a Lie, which were more of a side project of the political punk band ... But Alive , in which he was active as a singer, guitarist and songwriter from 1991 to 1999. While still at ... But Alive , he produced his solo album Hippiekacke , which was released on cassette in 1994 , but which he is said to have been dissatisfied with. In the same year he wrote the lyrics for the song Go Upright by Slime . In 1995 he also joined the Hamburg ska band Rantanplan , in which he also worked as a guitarist, singer and songwriter. In the same year he founded his own label BA Records , on which bands like Tomte , Rantanplan , The Weakerthans and ... But Alive released their records in the following years . In 1996 he organized the first European tour of the Canadian punk band Propagandhi .

After … But Alive broke up in 1999, he stayed with Rantanplan for a short time , but then got out and founded the indie rock band Kettcar in 2001 together with bassist Reimer Bustorff , who had also left Rantanplan . With Kettcar , Wiebusch has released the albums Du und wieviel von dein Freunde (2002), Von Spatzen und Tauben, Dächern und Hands (2005), Sylt (2008), Zwischen den Runden (2012) and Ich vs. We (2017).

In 2003 Wiebusch finished his studies in educational sciences with a diploma thesis on the topic The importance of popular music for the development of young people and the opportunities for youth cultural work .

His own record label B.A. After the end of ... But Alive , he let records merge into the Grand Hotel van Cleef label founded together with Thees Uhlmann (Tomte) and Reimer Bustorff . He is considered to be the discoverer of Uhlmann / Tomte and Olli Schulz . He taught Schulz to play the guitar, signed him to Grand Hotel van Cleef and directed the music videos The Moment and The Arrival of the Martians . He is also considered the discoverer of Death Cab for Cutie and The Weakerthans for the German market.

In the film No Songs About Love (2004) Wiebusch played the guitarist of the Hansen Band founded for the film . He was the music supervisor of the film, put the band together, co-composed the soundtrack and was the vocal coach of Jürgen Vogel , who plays the singer of the Hansen band in the film. When the film started in autumn 2005, the Hansen Band also did a one-off concert tour.

In 2006, Marcus Wiebusch took with Fettes Brot , Bela B. and Carsten Friedrichs from the band Superpunk the piece football is still important! on.

The EP Hinfort! Was released on April 19, 2013 for Record Store Day 2013 . Enemy power on vinyl and in digital form.

Wiebusch's solo debut album Konfetti was released on April 18, 2014. From the title The day will come , he developed a short film financed by crowdfunding , which is dedicated to the topic of homophobia in football . The film triggered a media response and was generally received very positively. Fan groups from several football clubs were also involved in the shoot.

On November 26, 2014, Wiebusch won the Hamburg Music Prize Hans twice. He was honored in the category “Artist of the Year” and received the award “Song of the Year” for “The day will come”.
