The Hundred in the Hands (sometimes abbreviated as THITH ) is an American electro-pop duo founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2008 . The band consists of Eleanore Everdell (vocals and keyboards) and Jason Friedman (guitar and production). The band name is derived from the Lakota name for the battle of the 100 dead during the Red Cloud War in Wyoming, in which Crazy Horse led his warriors to victory and left almost 100 enemies killed.

The band mixes synthpop with post-punk and dream pop elements. Her style has been influenced by artists and bands like Young Marble Giants , Wire , New Order , The Cure , De La Soul , Buddy Holly , Broadcast , Gang Gang Dance , and LCD Soundsystem .

Career

Jason Friedman graduated from an art school in New York City . Before joining THITH, he was guitarist, singer and songwriter in the indie rock band The Boggs . Eleanore Everdell studied opera singing at a college for classical music. In 2007 Everdell and Friedman met through singer Holly Miranda . Everdell then became a tour member with The Boggs. The decision to start their own band was made after the two discovered that they shared their musical tastes in many genres such as hip-hop , French house , disco , ska , dub and post-punk .

In December 2008 THITH published the song "Dressed in Dresden" online. Due to the success of the re-release as a single "Dressed in Dresden" / "Undressed in Dresden" on the Pure Groove label in March 2009, the band was signed to Warp Records , which Friedman placed at the top of his list of wish labels, in August 2009 . There was Dressed in Dresden reissued on April 5 of 2009. In 2010 the piece was also used in the British television drama Skins .

In May 2010 the debut EP This Desert was released , followed by the singles Pigeons in September and Commotion / Aggravation in November. Her first album The Hundreds in the Hands was released on September 20th by Warp Records. It received mostly positive reviews, scoring a metascore of 74 based on 13 reviews. The title Pigeons was used in the fifth season of the series Gossip Girl .

In January 2011 the band was nominated for the annual Independent Music Awards in the categories Pop / Rock for their debut album and Music Video, Short Form for their video on Pigeons .

The second album Red Night was released on June 11, 2012 on Warp Records .

The duo run the online magazine THITH ZINE, in which they report on bands, artists and designers they like and conduct interviews with them.

The third album Love in the Black Stack was released on June 15, 2017 on New Ancestors, a label that was founded by the band itself.
