Kommando Elefant is an indie pop / indie electro band from Vienna .

history

Kommando Elefant was founded in 2007 by Alf Peherstorfer. The first concerts with self-recorded demo songs were first played as a duo (with Bernhard Luis Pasching), mainly in Germany. The debut album Kaputt, aber Glück was produced in 2008 by Alexander Nefzger (including Clara Luzia , Mika Vember , André Heller ) and Florian Pilz and released on Asinella Records and got the first FM4 radio appearances with the songs Wittgenstein and Evelyne . In the same year the band took part in the pre-finals of the protest song contest with the song Die Bosse .

The follow-up album, Come on, we hit grenades in, the little bit of life was released in 2010 via LasVegas Records and contained several radio and video hits. The single Alaska placed u. a. 4th place on FM4 and 2nd place in the Austrian Indie Charts. The second single, Falsche Helden , reached number 5 on the FM4 charts. In 2010 the band opened the Frequency Festival . That year the band was also nominated for the Top 5 FM4 Alternative Award at the Amadeus Austrian Music Award .

In April 2012, the third album Scheitern as a show was released with the pre-single Sternenmarie . The next single, Wir sprengen Krokodile , came in at number 2 in the Austrian Indie Charts. In autumn 2012 the band toured with the FM4 Soundpark Tour.

In November 2013 Peherstorfer and Pasching published Das große Elefantenlesebuch via Milena Verlag . “A potpourri of madness”, as they call it, made up of song texts, short stories, recipes, drawings, dream recordings, etc. Peherstorfer and Pasching have been on constant reading trips ever since and have already attended clubs ( Rhiz , Stadtwerkstatt ), at book fairs (including Buch Wien ) or at reading festivals like u. a. the Harvest Festival Villach read. The readings are accompanied by a Powerpoint presentation and songs on two acoustic guitars and are assigned to the theater of the absurd.

In November 2014, the fourth album Let's Reality was released. The album was produced by Matthias Jakisic , composer at the Burgtheater and the Salzburg Festival . Furthermore, he has already worked with u. a. Bauchklang , Archive or Depeche Mode worked together. The first single I think you are strange , a homage to Die Antwoord - I finky u freeky , went straight to number 2 on the Austrian Indie Charts , and reached number 8 on the FM4 charts.

You are one of 16 bands that presented themselves to a selected expert jury for Austria to participate in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest . In the Austrian preliminary round , they were eliminated in the first broadcast.

In 2017 the fifth album Herz und Anarchie was released, this time self-produced. The singles in all the fucked up clubs and your last comeback reached number 1 in the Austrian indie charts and number 5 and number 17 in the FM4 charts.

style

In the beginning the style of the band was more like a singer / songwriter with electronic elements, the fourth album has now become significantly more electronic and also more danceable. They describe their style as "Broken Pop" - "Between party and melancholy, with heart and anarchy". The fifth album takes up the early strengths and combines acoustic with electronic elements.

Social Commitment

The band repeatedly advocates events for charitable organizations such as Ute Bock , against the Academic Ball , for refugee aid, for moral courage. Although the band does not belong to any party, the political stance is clearly left.
