Archive is an English music group from London . Initially, a trip-hop - band , their music combines influences from trip hop, post and indie rock .

history

The band was founded in 1994 by Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths, who had previously played together in the breakbeat hardcore band Genaside II . After a while, however, they wanted to expand their musical style and started writing their own songs. The first album (together with the singer Roya Arab and the rapper Rosko John) called Londinium was released in 1996 on Island Records . It was heavily influenced by Massive Attack , but also contained elements of rap and alternative rock . Despite the good reviews the album received, the band split for the time being that same year after a disagreement between Roya Arab and Rosko John.

In 1999 Archive released their second album Take My Head with the singer Suzanne Wooder, which was much more poppy and melodic than their first album . However, the album was not a commercial success.

A year later Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths signed the singer Craig Walker of Power of Dreams . This was followed by the album You All Look The Same To Me , which made the band more popular and received good reviews. A larger fan base was formed, especially in France. In 2003 the band produced the soundtrack for the French film Michel Vaillant , and the album Noise came out a year later . The style change towards progressive rock is clearly recognizable , even if trip-hop elements are still present.

In November 2004, Craig Walker left the band a few days before Unplugged was released . He was replaced by Dave Pen. In the summer of 2006 the album Lights was released with another new singer, Pollard Berrier, who has been writing the songs since 2005. Shortly thereafter, in 2007, the album Live at the Zenith followed , which was recorded unannounced in Paris during a concert.

In 2009 Archives released the album Controlling Crowds . In April 2011, the band's first live DVD was released, Live in Athens . The concert was recorded in September 2010 at the Badminton Theater in Athens.

In August 2012, their eighth studio album With Us Until You're Dead was released. Her song Bullets was also used for an episode of the German crime series Ein Fall für Zwei, where it is recorded during a boxing match and a subsequent escape through the building. The title You Make Me Feel from the album Take My Head has been used in television advertising by the company L'Oréal since October 2012 . In January 2013, the single Bullets adorned the teaser for the computer game Cyberpunk 2077 .

In May 2014 the album Axiom was released and in January 2015 its successor Restriction , from which three singles ( Kid Corner , Feel It and Black and Blue ) had already been presented in October 2014 .
