The French racing driver Michel Vaillant starts for the family-owned racing team at the Vaillant works. During a rally in Italy, his team mate David Dougherty had a fatal accident in an accident caused by Bob Cramer. At the funeral, team leader Jean-Pierre Vaillant offers his support to Dougherty's girlfriend, Julie Wood. A few days later, Julie Wood, who herself had a racing driver's license, asked Jean-Pierre Vaillant to take her friend's place at the Le Mans 24-hour race . With the support of Michel Vaillant, she becomes the second woman in the Vaillant racing team alongside the Belgian Gabriele Spangenberg.
At a press conference prior to the race, the rival Team Leader, under the leadership of Ruth Wong, the daughter of the team founder, announces his participation in the 24-hour race. Wong explains to Michel Vaillant that he will get in trouble if he starts. To show how serious she is, she sabotaged the truck with which Vaillants racing cars were transported.
When the Vaillant team started the race anyway, Ruth Wong had senior boss Henri Vaillant kidnapped. Michel Vaillant asks Wood to drive the next laps in his racing suit so that he can find time to look for his father. Vaillant can use a navigation system to find out where his father is hidden, but is discovered by Wong's employees. When Cramer, injured by a bird strike , has to pause, Wong forces Michel Vaillant to slip into the role of Cramer.
In the meantime, Julie Wood learns that Cramer is responsible for the death of her boyfriend and rams the Leader vehicle off the track - believing that the driver is Cramer. The accident causes the Vaillant racing car to go up in flames . Vaillant can save Wood from the car. Together with Warson they drive to the farm where the senior boss is being held.
Meanwhile, Gabriele Spangenberg drives the remaining Vaillant car further forward. Since Warson was injured during the liberation, he cannot carry out the planned driver change. That's why Michel Vaillant - disguised as Warson - takes on the final laps. However, since one of the tires was sabotaged by the leader team unnoticed and burst on the last lap, victory no longer seems to be possible. Meanwhile, the leader in the lead suffers an engine failure on the home stretch. The driver tried to push the defective car across the finish line, but was caught up by Michel Vaillant, who was forced to drive very slowly, so that he could still win the race as close as possible.

Some scenes were filmed during the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2002 . For this purpose, two additional boxes were built and two cars from the French DAMS team were used: a Lola in Vaillant colors and a black and red Panoz for the leader team.
