Jonathan Noyce
Jonathan Mark Thomas Noyce [nʊɪs] (born July 15, 1971 in Sutton Coldfield , now part of Birmingham , West Midlands , England ) is a British musician. He plays bass and is best known as a member of the British rock band Jethro Tull (1995 to 2007). Noyce also worked with guitarist and singer Gary Moore for years .
Life
Childhood, youth and education
His father Peter was a choirmaster and assistant organist at Lichfield Cathedral , his mother Jane an urban planner. Jonathan grew up listening to the sounds of choirs, organs and orchestral music that could be heard on his parents' small record collection. At the age of 16 and 17 he played percussion , small drums , timpani and xylophones in orchestras . Later he tried many other musical instruments , e.g. B. piano , guitar and trumpet . He got his first paid gig with the bass when he was 17. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London .
Career
Early career
Noyce had his first success with the British pop group Take That , for whom he played electric bass in a studio recording in 1993 . During this period he worked closely with producer Joey Negro aka Dave Lee.
In 1995, Noyce and Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre met and asked him to play on his solo album The Meeting . This turned into an opportunity for Noyce to meet Tull frontman Ian Anderson , who invited him to join his Divinities world tour . A few months later, Dave Pegg announced his resignation from Jethro Tull. Jonathan Noyce was the first choice to succeed and joined the band in August 1995. During his eleven years with Jethro Tull, he traveled around the world and participated in the recording of several studio albums and live recordings.
In his own words he plays ' camouflage bass ': "You cannot hear it, but you can feel it".
Apart from Jethro Tull, Noyce worked long with guitarist Gary Moore , he played on his blues album Old New Ballads and the memorial concert for Phil Lynot, One Night in Dublin , which was attended by members of Thin Lizzy , as well as Moore's last recorded show Live At Montreux 2010 . In 2006 Noyce played on several European tour dates for The Divine Comedy . Noyce has been a member of the British band Archives since 2007 . Rick Wakeman brought him in 2009 for his concerts at Hampton Court Palace . These shows were recorded and filmed as The Six Wives of Henry VIII Live at Hampton Court Palace . Noyce played again on Gary Moore's 2010 summer rock tour across Europe. The band also included drummer Darrin Mooney and Neil Carter, guitar and keyboard. This Celtic rock project ended with Moore's sudden death on February 6, 2011.
Further career
In 2010 Jonathan Noyce had one of his greatest commercial successes with the release of the work Bleu Noir by the French-Canadian singer Mylène Farmer , for which Noyce provided all the bass tracks. At the Eurosonic Festival in January of the same year, Noyce supported the debut appearance of Love Amongst Ruin . Two years later he worked again with his former Jethro Tull bandmate Martin Barre, at live shows all over Europe.
Noyce also took part in Barre's solo album Away With Words (2013). In the same year Noyce joined Sixto Rodriguez for a number of shows , including the Montreux Jazz Festival and Glastonbury Festival . In December Noyce played at a concert at Pentangle , where the life of Bert Jansch was honored. This was broadcast on BBC television.
In the Gentle Giant offshoot band Three friends played Noyce 2014, together with the former members Gary Green and Malcolm Mortimore . He was also on tour with Martin Barre again. He can be heard on the soundtracks to the films I Am Ali and The Man From UNCLE . Archive released the film Axiom , and was at the Montreux Jazz Festival . Noyce was the producer of Mike Marlin's album The Secret of My Success . Noyce played both bass and minimoog on the archive album Restriction (2015) . He toured with the band the following year.
Noyce played bass on the soundtrack of Guy Ritchie's 2016 film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword . The title song of the film Gold - Greed has a new color by Stephen Gaghan (music by Daniel Pemberton ), composed and recorded by Iggy Pop and DJ Danger Mouse . Noyce contributed to this and the rest of the film music. He also starred on The False Foundation ( Archive ).

Electric basses
Jonathan Noyce's main instruments are an original 1960 Fender Precision bass guitar (which has an "identical twin", built by Fender Masterbuilt craftsman Ian Waller), Yamaha basses (BB1100s, Fretless, BB3000 & BB2025X), whale basses (custom 4 , 4 fretless and 5-string), Fender Musicmaster, a 1964 Fender Jazz Bass , an Epiphone Rivoli Bass, a Guild Akustik and a Zeta Crossover UEB and a Music Man StingRay . A Höfner bass has also been there since April 2015 . He uses D'Addario and Flatwound strings.
amplifier
He's used SWR amps for over twenty years , and his current main live rig has an SM900 amp and Henry the 8x8 package. In the studio, Noyce uses an SWR Redhead Combo, SWR Mo'Bass, Fender Bassman , Ampeg Portaflex and Wallace amplifiers. He also uses a Radial JDV ™ Super Direct Box.
Effects devices
The pedalboard equipment Radial JDV and JDI DI units are used in the studio, bassbone preamplifiers for live performances. He also uses the Electro-Harmonix Micro Synthesizer.

In addition, Noyce plays keyboards, Minimoog and Moog bass.
