G-Force is the only studio album by the hard rock band of the same name around the Northern Irish guitarist Gary Moore . The album was first released in 1980 and was re-released on CD ten years later as "Gary Moore's G-Force". It is now widely regarded as the guitarist's third solo album and is listed as such on Gary Moore's official homepage.

History of origin

After Moore left the band Thin Lizzy in the middle of a US tour in the summer of 1979 , he went to Los Angeles and founded a new band with Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals) and Mark Nauseef (drums). Moore had previously played with Nauseef at Thin Lizzy. The trio played a few demos, but because Moore and Hughes got into conflict, Hughes was quickly replaced by Tony Newton on bass and Willy Dee as singer. In this formation, the band recorded a self-produced album that was mixed by producer friend Dennis MacKay.

The album was simply called G-Force and was released in the early summer of 1980. The band then went on tour with Whitesnake and played a few concerts in support of the Ready an 'Willing tour. Probably because Moore wanted to stay in Great Britain and the album was not a notable success, the band broke up very quickly. The last G-Force concert took place in London on July 1st .

Beyond the self-titled album, Trust Your Lovin (Newton, Dee), the B-side of You , is just one other published track by the band. After their breakup, Moore put together a new band in the fall of 1980 and recorded his solo album Dirty Fingers at the beginning of the next year .

G-Force contains some elements from later Moore albums, for example Moore's typical hard rock riffs and long instrumental solos . However, there are also pop elements in the style of Elvis Costello and boogie-woogie passages on the album, which are rarely found in Moore's later work.

Guitar sound

Therefore, the very extreme guitar sound on this album is because Moore's with a Humbucker - pickup equipped Charvel -Guitar an effect unit was connected directly to the recording console.
