Victims of the Future is the fifth solo album by Northern Irish hard rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore . It was published in January 1984 and was an international success with chart placements in various countries. The album is now considered the guitarist's toughest album and wasvoted number 183 of the “300 best Hard'n'Heavy records of all time”by Rock Hard in 2001.

Emergence

After the almost year-long world tour for Corridors of Power (1982), Moore was able to prepare for a new album from mid-1983. He wrote most of the songs himself, but the members of his touring band, Ian Paice , Neil Murray and especially Neil Carter, were also involved. For the recordings, they went to the Townhouse in London in October , where initially there were still problems with new equipment. Probably because Murray soon returned to Whitesnake , Moore had to take over some of the bass tracks himself, and some had Bob Daisley and Mo Foster record them. Paice was supplemented by Bobby Chouinard on drums. A planned guest appearance by Ozzy Osbourne did not materialize due to illness.

The album, which was completed by December 1983, was a bit heavier than its predecessor. In addition to aggressive hard rock pieces like Murder In The Skies or the gloomy The Law of the Jungle , it also contains one of the guitarist's most famous ballads with Empty Rooms . Shapes of Things is a cover version of the Yardbirds . The Law of the Jungle was originally discussed as the album title, but since Victims of the Future was believed to be the much better song, Moore finally named the album after him.
