After Hours is a music album by Northern Irish hard rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore . It was released in May 1992 and continues the blues-oriented direction he started with the album "Still Got The Blues". As in that album, he used a blues-oriented brass formation for instrumentation and invited the prominent black blues legends Albert Collins and BB King as guest musicians.
history
As on its predecessor, Gary Moore combined blues standards with his own compositions. Prominent musicians once again participated in the recordings. Sun played BB King for Since I Met You Baby , Albert Collins is at The Blues Is Alright heard. Five singles were released: Cold Day in Hell (beforehand in February 1992), Story of the Blues (May 1992), Since I Met You Baby (August 1992), Separate Ways (October 1992) and Only Fool in Town (only in the UNITED STATES). With 2nd place in Germany and 1st place in Switzerland , Moore was even able to reach an even higher chart position than with Still Got the Blues . The single Cold Day in Hell was again quite successful with 29th place.
criticism
The website Allmusic wrote that the album was reminiscent of its predecessor, but looked a bit calculated: “While his playing is just as impressive, the album feels a little calculated. Nevertheless, Moore's gutsy, impassioned playing makes the similarity easy to ignore. ”She gave it a rating of 4.5 out of 5. The rating in Rock Hard was less good . Above all, Markus Schleutermann criticized an ingratiation to the masses with “pompous cuddly lard” and “trend-oriented brass arrangements”. The bottom line is that the mainstream blueser Moore - for example in comparison to his compatriot Rory Gallagher - takes some of his credibility "and compares him with his old works like ' Corridors of Power ' or ' Victims Of The." Future 'look old anyway' (6.5 out of 10 points).
A more recent review of the album on the website "sputnik music" sees it quite differently. There the reviewer comes to this conclusion in his review of the CD:
"In many ways After Hours is one of the best representations of Moore as a guitarist. Everything that makes him standout from other guitarists of a similar ilk is presented on this album (well at least everything except his vast stylistic versatility). In addition, the album is also a great representation of his vocal abilities, featuring one of his stronger vocal performances, as well as his talents as song writer, with many of the album's originals sitting comfortably alongside well-known blues classics. While After Hours may not have received quite the same level of acclaim that its predecessor has over the years, there's no doubt that this album is one of the best and most consistent albums of Moore's illustrious career. "
