German winter trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Winterreise is a nationwide art project by the author Stefan Weiller. In this project, the song cycle Winterreise by Franz Schubert is connected with the life stories and experiences of homeless and socially excluded people from German-speaking cities. The project has been performed in public spaces - mostly in churches - since 2009.

aims

The aim of the Deutsche Winterreise project is to use art to promote understanding, helpfulness and solidarity for homeless and socially excluded people. At the same time, a new and contemporary interpretation of the song cycle by Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Müller emerges .

The core of the art project are the life stories and experiences of the homeless or formerly homeless people. They were collected in individual interviews and then written down by Stefan Weiller, the project initiator. The resulting, sometimes very short text fragments give an insight into the emotions and experiences of the interlocutors.

Performances

The memories and reports of the interviewees are presented by a professional speaker between the individual songs of the winter trip. Due to the different stories and the different performance locations, a completely new performance is created in every city. The usual performance practice of a winter trip is deliberately broken because several singers and various instruments such as piano, organ, guitar or harpsichord are used. The musical arrangement of the winter trip is also tailored to the specific situation in the respective city. The winter trip in each city thus has its own concept, direction and musical implementation developed by Stefan Weiller. The clients for this project are mostly responsible for social work.
