Tom Wright Scott (born May 19, 1948 in Los Angeles ) is a composer, arranger, producer, musical director and saxophonist. He is best known for film scores for the films Starsky & Hutch , Der Volltreffer , The Streets of San Francisco and Cannon , among others .

Scott played in a jazz band as a student. At the age of 20, Tom Scott released his first album Honeysuckle Breeze . This was followed by the founding of the LA Express group , which was very successful. Over the years he has successfully composed film scores, but also played as a professional on famous albums, such as Joni Mitchell , the Blues Brothers , Whitney Houston , Barbra Streisand , George Harrison , Eddie Money , Carole King , Steely Dan , Toto , Quincy Jones or Frank Sinatra .

Tom Scott's music is influenced by many musical genres. His music goes back to John Coltrane and Gerry Mulligan , but elements from Indian music and pop are also used. The style can best be described as easy listening or crossover. Tom Scott's music is elegant, but is also often found to be smooth and gentle.

As a studio musician, Tom Scott played with Spyro Gyra and Tony Williams . With his group LA Express he was part of the jazz rock movement. Three of his albums have received a Grammy since 1975 .
