War Child is the seventh studio album and also the eighth work by the progressive rock band Jethro Tull . It was released in October 1974. It reached # 14 in the UK and # 2 in the US.
album
Most of the songs on the album were written during the second half of the Passion Play tour. However, there are also earlier recordings on the album, because War Child was written before A Passion Play and Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day , Bungle in the Jungle and Only Solitaire are pieces from the so-called Château D'isaster tapes .
The album was planned as music for a film project, but the idea was not implemented.
The front part of the record sleeve shows Ian Anderson in the colors blue and white with an Aquila , which bears the name of the band and album, in front of a picture of a nocturnal, modern city in purple-orange tones. The back shows the band members and 14 other people who are related to the songs on the album, including in the center of the picture a little girl holding a machine gun, a skater, four young women in hot pants , a nun, two rugby players and a woman disguised as Queen Elizabeth I , knighting a man, and a sea lion doing ball training. Anderson also holds the Aquila here, but is in the background. The additional people include Anderson's future wife Shona and other relatives and friends of the musicians.
In addition to the five musicians of Jethro Tull, members of the Philamusica in London can be heard as an orchestra , conducted by David Palmer .
