Stephen Gaghan (born May 6, 1965 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American screenwriter and film director . He is an Oscar and Golden Globe award winner.

Career

Gaghan began his career in television; he wrote for the television series The Practice and NYPD Blue . In 2000, Gaghan wrote the screenplay for his first full-length feature film for the thriller Rules - Seconds of Decision . The films Traffic - Power of the Cartel and Syriana made Gaghan known. He was nominated for an Oscar for both films ; in both the Best Original Screenplay ( Syriana ) and Best Adapted Screenplay ( Traffic - Power of the Cartel ) category . In 2001 he received the award for the latter film. In 2004 he worked on the script for Alamo - The Dream, Fate, and Legend . In 2013 he wrote the screenplay for the Activision-published video game Call of Duty: Ghosts . In 2016, he directed the film Gold - Greed Has a New Color . In 2020 the publication of The Fantastic Journey of Dr. Dolittle , who directed and co-wrote the script.

Gaghan is married to fashion designer Minnie Mortimer ; the two have a child.
