biography
Musical development
Jakisic grew up as the son of an Austrian mother and a Croatian father with three siblings in Lower Austria. His parents, both opera singers, encouraged their children's musical education and recognized Jakisic's special talent at an early age. He started taking violin lessons at the age of six.
According to his own statements, Jakisic developed his playing style, which later made him known as the “devil's violinist”, as well as his special musical note outside of his music education: “In music school you learn technique, in life you learn to hear and listen. And even in terms of play, something like a note of its own emerges after years. You don't really notice that yourself, but in principle I would say that everything I've learned outside of the violin is based on the principle of 'learning by doing'. "
Today Jakisic moves as a violinist, producer and composer between classical, electronic music and pop and, in addition to numerous cooperation and solo projects, is also active as a composer and musician for theater productions, including at the Vienna Burgtheater. In the domestic and international music scene, Jakisic is best known for his musical versatility and his avant-garde style: “Matthias Jakisic is unpredictable. Unpredictable in its musical diversity. ”(Sam Vahdat, Trackshittaz ).

Awards
In 1997 Jakisic received the Youngsters of Arts Award - the youth development award of the city of St. Pölten for young artists.
In 2012 Jakisic was nominated for the STELLA - Darstellender.Kunst.Preis for young audiences in the category "Outstanding Music" with five pieces ( "Bonny and Clyde" / Junge Burg, "Parzival / Short Cut" / Junge Burg, "Popcorn" / Dschungel Wien, "dictator" / Dschungel Wien, "Sand" / Dschungel Wien). He was honored for his music in "Sand", "Dictator", "Parzival / Short Cut" and "Bonny and Clyde".
Rationale of the national jury:
“ The music we are talking about sets the tone, provides impetus, intervenes on the stage and becomes an independent play partner. Sometimes it is quiet and minimalist, sometimes loud and weird - but it is always part of the staging with which it enters into an intimate relationship and develops its unmistakable sound. For his music he sometimes appears on stage as an actor with his violin, sometimes as a composer, sometimes as a sound designer and arranger - but his music always remains unmistakable and gives the staging a new dimension. He has been doing this for DSCHUNGEL WIEN for 5 years now and, since 2010, at Junge Burg. His music is versatile and idiosyncratic, it is a total work of art and solo performer and that is why he is a real theater musician. "
In 2016 the play “Lights of the Suburbs” was awarded the Nestroy Prize in the category “Best State Performance”.
