Bauchklang is a Lower Austrian beatboxing band.

In 1996 the vocal groove project of the originally six people from St. Pölten was formed as a result of a joint school musical production by Jesus Christ Superstar of the BRG / BORG St. Pölten under the direction of Erich Schwab (see former members). Since 2006 the band has consisted of five members after several line-up changes. They create their sound ( hip-hop , reggae , trance , techno , drum and bass and ambient ) without instruments - only with the power of their voice , their stomach and their diaphragm .

history

Within the first five years of its existence, Bauchklang developed a sound aesthetic that is difficult to assign to the conventional a cappella genre. In 2001 the band manifested a new, urban a cappella style with the self-definition "Vocal Groove Project", which, inspired by electronic music, was also able to convince in a club context.

In 2001, Bauchklang released the debut album Jamzero . In 2002 they were honored with two “Amadeus Awards” for “Best Album” and as “FM4 Alternative Act”. After a performance at the "Trans Musicales" festival (2001) in Rennes (France), Bauchklang was invited to numerous European festivals. In 2002 the "Vocal Groove Project" landed in Canada for the first time, where they performed at the renowned Montreal Jazz Festival.

In 2005 their second album, Many People , was released, with which they toured Europe and Canada. In 2008, Bauchklang could be heard live for the first time in Mumbai (India), where in 2009 the album Live in Mumbai was recorded from three other concerts in the club "Bluefrog" . In the following year, Bauchklang's third studio album Signs was released, on which the group collaborated with artists such as the spoken word icon Ursula Rucker or the French MC Rouda and the French human beatboxer TEZ. In 2010 the band received two more "Amadeus Awards" in the categories "Best Live Act" and "Alternative".

After the self-published EP Le Mans in 2011 , where Bauchklang impressed with minimal techno, the group founded their own label "Bauchklang Records" in July 2012, on which they released their EP Ray at the end of September of the same year . Always inclined to electronic dance music, Bauchklang have realized their wish to merge vocal and studio effects with Ray : The techno pioneer Patrick Pulsinger, who was also responsible for productions by Elektro Guzzi, Pamelia Kurstin and DJ Hell, produced Ray , the " Advance notice "for the new album to be released in January 2013.

In July 2013 it was officially confirmed that Alexander Böck would leave the band at the end of the year and Bauchklang would take a break. The preliminary farewell concert took place in December 2013 in St. Pölten.

After a two and a half year break, Bauchklang performed again in June 2016 at the Vienna Danube Island Festival .
