Sofa Surfers is an Austrian band consisting of Wolfgang Frisch , Markus Kienzl , Michael Holzgruber and Wolfgang Schlögl ( dropped out in 2014), all from Vienna , and singer Mani Obeya. The music style of the group is difficult to classify. The first success came together with Richard Dorfmeister , also from Vienna , who released the track Sofa Rockers from the Transit album for Kruder & Dorfmeister on the album The K & D Sessions .

Career

The 1997 album Transit with the two single releases The Plan and Sofa Rockers caused a sensation in the European dub and techno scene , but it was only the tour that followed that garnered storms of enthusiasm. The second album Cargo is characterized by minimalism and many breakbeat elements. The following records are more likely to be classified in the downbeat or trip-hop category. Another CD from Sofa Surfers was released in 2005, which was fundamentally different from the previous ones. For the first time a guitarist and a drummer and singer Mani Obeya could be heard.

Sofa Rockers was chosen by Apple as background music for the welcome videos in Mac OS X 10.0 , Mac OS X 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.2 . These videos are played once after successful installation.

Sofa Surfers contributed soundtracks to all of the film adaptations of the Wolf Haas crime novels about the fictional private detective Simon Brenner - Come, Sweet Death (2000), Silentium (2004), Der Bone Man (2009) and Das Ewige Leben (2015) . The film Anatomie (2000), with Franka Potente , also contains a song by the Sofa Surfers.

In 2012 the album Superluminal was released , with which the Sofa Surfers won the “Alternative” category at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2013 .

At the end of October 2014, the founding member Wolfgang Schlögl left the band "for personal reasons and in order to devote more time to other projects".
