Nomination and election
Musicians and bands or their publications who came onto the market between January 1 and December 31, 2012 or had at least one live performance could be nominated. The prerequisite was that the artists had their center of life in Austria or were Austrian citizens. On February 24, 2013, the Association of the Austrian Music Industry ( IFPI ) announced the nominations. Five candidates in each category were presented to the public on the Amadeus Awards website.
Nine juries compiled by the organizer (eight for the various music genres, one for the Best Live Act category ) each selected three of the musicians / bands. The two other nominees arose from the two best-selling productions of the respective genre, as evaluated by Media Control Austria . The nominations in the cross-genre categories Album of the Year and Song of the Year were made up of the most frequently mentioned productions from three proposals from each of the jury members. The organizer made the selection for awarding the honor for life's work, as well as for the two new prizes ( Best Live Act International and Honorary Jury Prize ). The FM4 Award was determined by Radio- FM4 and its listeners.
