Nik P.
Nik P. (born April 6, 1962 in Friesach , Carinthia ; bourgeois Nikolaus Presnik ) is an Austrian pop singer and composer. In his home country he has been one of the most successful interpreters of his genre since the late 1990s. He became known beyond the borders of Austria through the composition Ein Stern (... that bears your name) . Eight years after he wrote the title for the Schlager Grand Prix , he was able to place himself in the charts in early 2007 in various versions, including by DJ Ötzi and Nic . The version, which he recorded together with DJ Ötzi, became the most successful single in Germany for ten years and overtook Freddy Quinn's The Guitar and the Sea as the title that was in the top 10 of the German single charts for the longest time . In 2008 he won the German music award Echo in the Hit of the Year category .
Career
Presnik was born in 1962 as the third of five children to a Carinthian and a Russian Cossack . After the early death of his mother Maria Presnik, he grew up with the Wilplinger family in Strasbourg on the Krassnitz in Carinthia. He graduated from secondary school and then trained as a waiter. The conscription to the armed forces initially interrupted his professional career. After leaving the army, Nikolaus Presnik worked as a carpenter. He later worked as a CNC technician at IBS - Paper Performance Group, a supplier company for the pulp industry based in Teufenbach .
As a teenager he taught himself to play the guitar as an autodidact . At the age of 19, he and his cousin Gottfried Notsch founded a band with which he performed in the local community. When his boss, Klaus Bartelmuss , recognized Presnik's talent, he set up a recording studio called Stall Records in a former stable building in Teufenbach, Styria . His debut album was released in 1997 with the title Broken Heart together with Presnik's companion band Reflex . With the first single Dream Lover he reached number 1 in the domestic hit parade. In 1998 he produced the album Mit dir , on which the later successful title A star that bears your name can be heard. In the first three years of his career, five more top positions followed. In 2001, the ORF awarded Presnik the Golden Star as the most performed performer . In 2005 Presnik separated from Reflex and some of his longtime accompanying musicians. In 2006 he got platinum for his album Lust for Life and Passion .
In 2007 Nikolaus Presnik and DJ Ötzi published his 1998 song A Star That Bears Your Name , which spent eleven weeks at number 1 in the German music charts and 13 weeks at number 1 in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 . For over 450,000 copies sold, the song was awarded triple gold in Germany. The song was sold over 60,000 times in Austria, which earned it double platinum from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry . In 2008 Presnik received the German music award ECHO in the category “Most successful international title” for a star that bears your name .
Nik P. is divorced and has four children. On March 22, 2020, it was announced that Nik P. was infected with the corona virus.
In 2017 he was honored at the Amadeus Awards together with DJ Ötzi in the Schlager category.
