The guitar and the sea is a hit in the Beguine rhythm , with which Freddy Quinn had a number one hit in 1959 . The melody comes from Lotar Olias , the text was written by Aldo von Pinelli .

After Freddy was able to achieve a number one title again in 1958 with the seaman 's song I'm here again soon , he immediately had a first place in the hit lists with The Guitar and the Sea and thus became a singing seaman. Lotar Olias and Peter Moesser formed the team of authors for the song I'll be back soon, Lotar Olias and Aldo von Pinelli were at work on the follow-up track. The text is about the sailor Jimmy Brown, who has lost his girl Juanita to someone else and now only has his guitar and the sea as a friend. The record with the title I'll be back soon and you always need a friend was produced on December 2nd, 1958 in the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Hamburg-Harburg . Bert Kaempfert and his orchestra did the background music . While the record was on the market in January 1959, Wolfgang Schleif began to shoot the movie Freddy, the guitar and the sea , in which Freddy played the leading role and sang the song The guitar and the sea . The film premiered in Hamburg on April 28, 1959. On March 28, 1959, Freddy's song appeared for the first time in the top 30 of the music magazine Musikmarkt . On April 25th it had reached number one and stayed there for 14 weeks. In the hit balance sheet of the German chart singles published by Günter Ehnert (see literature), Freddy Quinn also took first place among the hits of the year with The Guitar and the Sea . In the 1959 ranking of the youth magazine Bravo , the song landed at the top. Radio Luxembourg awarded it the Golden Lion on November 17, 1959 , and the record industry awarded the title the platinum record because of its outstanding sales success .
Other languages, cover and instrumental versions
Freddy also sang his successful title in English: The Guitar and the Sea . Roberto Blanco recorded a cover version for Philips in 1959 . There are also instrumental versions of the orchestras Erwin Lehn and Max Greger on singles . After 2000 several CDs with a cover version by Ulli Martin appeared .
