Giantree is an Austrian band from Vienna .

history

Giantree was founded in 2008 in Vienna by the brothers Hele and Roland Maurer. The two previously played with Sirupop , which, however, did not come out through an assignment with the Austrian broadcaster Ö3 . In 2008 they signed a management and booking contract with a German artist agency.

After a few changes of line-up, a stable line-up was found in Franziska Kleinschmidt (bass) and Ada Joachimsthaler (synthesizer, vocals). The band played various acoustic concerts in Berlin. First releases in 2011 were the singles Time Loops and Communicate , for which videos were shot. Both videos were shot by the director Manuel Johns , and the young actors Harry Lampl , Susa Hohlrieder, David Goebel, Lukas Rose, Bertrand de Fay, Sabrina Reiter and Michael Fuith were shown . The band then got radio airplay on FM4 , Soundportal and Radio Fritz .

In 2012 her debut album We All Yell was released via Monkey Music and distributed by Rough Trade Distribution . The Single -Auskopplung Life Was Young reached No. 1 on the FM4 charts. In 2013 the band was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the Alternative category and the FM4 Award.

style

Giantree plays indie or alternative rock in a rather worn, melancholy style and is reminiscent of placebo , especially vocally . The band uses unison choral singing. The first album is based on Britpop and Scandinavian music. The lyrics are mostly about existential questions and feelings.
