Origin Buam is a folk music group from Stumm in the Zillertal , Austria .
Group members
Martin Brugger (born November 12, 1976) studied law at the University of Innsbruck . He started playing the violin at the age of 16 under the guidance of his grandfather . His brother Andreas Brugger (born December 29, 1978) also studied law at the University of Innsbruck and plays in the Styrian harmonica group . Manfred Höllwarth (born April 5, 1962) learned the trade of armorer and was a popular musician for several years. He too learned to play the harp and double bass under the guidance of the grandfather of the Brugger brothers .
Career
At a New Year's Eve party where Martin Brugger and his brother Andreas Brugger played music, they decided to found the trio Die Ursprung Buam together with their cousin Manfred Höllwarth, who was also a popular musician for many years . The band was set up in 1993 under the leadership of the musical grandfather of the Brugger brothers. A first place in the popular hit parade on ORF helped her to become very popular in Austria, and also in other countries such as Switzerland , Germany or the Benelux countries, the Ursprung Buam became more and more popular. In 2001 they were awarded the Amadeus - Austrian Music Award as the best folk music group in Austria. In 2007 they were nominated for the Echo for the first time .
By 2007 the folk music group had released 13 CDs, of which ten albums received the Golden Record award in Austria . It has been called the most successful folk music band in Austria. In 2008 the episodic film The Austrian Method was released . For this film, the Ursprung Buam contributed the title Two fawn eyes .
Controversy over racism and sexism
In 2009 the Austrian internet portal derStandard.at and the Austrian minister for women, Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek , accused the group of racism and sexism. An online game in particular, in which a waitress is shot at with a slingshot and she can be stripped of her female sexual characteristics by being hit, caused a stir. In addition, the text of the song Achmed was described as a disparagement of Muslims.
“Yes, Achmed, you dear Achmed, you Saudi Arabian don't laugh, you can only dream of us and our women in the desert country (...) dear Achmed ... leave home, wife and child and everything down there, three days if they just fly in circles, the engine fails, they land gently in the desert, now they are back at home. "
As a result of these allegations, the group was banned from appearing in the ORF / ZDF / SF coproduction Wenn die Musipiele . Since the Ursprung Buam published a press release in which they distanced themselves from racism and misogyny and also removed the controversial online game from the homepage, the broadcasters did not comply with this demand.
Others
2013 caused a stir that the Ursprung-Buam member Martin Brugger accidentally poisoned hundreds of fish by manure spread by a farmer.
