HVOB ( Her Voice Over Boys ) is an Austrian producer - duo in the field of electronic music from Vienna .
history
The band was founded in 2012 by the former members of the recently disbanded Herbstrock group , Anna Müller and Paul Wallner. The first sound snippets on Soundcloud caught the attention of Oliver Koletzki from the Berlin independent label Stil vor Talent , who signed the band. This was followed by an appearance at the Melt Festival, which made the band known. HVOB's first Extended Play Dogs was released in 2012 . This reached number 4 on the Beatport charts. Then came four more EPs and the self-titled debut album. Further appearances, including at the Donaufestival in Krems an der Donau and in other European countries, followed.
In late 2012, the title Dogs was used in a promotional video by Lebanese-French designer Elie Saab for his 2013 in-store collection.
In 2013, the band was voted 2nd in the category "Top Live Acts of the Year" in the DeBug reader poll. In the same year they reached a top 15 position on the US Billboard chart "Next Big Sound".
In 2014 the band was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the Electronic / Dance category. The band declined their nomination in advance. In particular, the duo disrupted the partnership with the private radio station KroneHit , which presented the award. In an open email via Facebook , the duo stated that they did not want to “get a prize in a category that sees its most important task as addressing the clumsiest marketing needs of a (and in our opinion anything but suitable) partner - especially unsolicited - to satisfy the backs of Austrian bands. "
Since its inception, HVOB u. a. at the Berlin Festival , the South by Southwest (SXSW) in Texas, the Fusion Festival in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Melt! Festival , the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) in Cape Town, the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and the FM4 Frequency Festival in Austria. The band played concerts in over 30 countries worldwide - including India, China, South Africa and the United States.
In 2014, Müller composed and produced the entire film music for the cinema documentary Attention - A Life in Extremes . She was nominated for the Austrian Film Award 2015 in the category “Best Music”.
In April 2015, the band was invited by the British Tate Gallery of Modern Art to set music to a picture.
On April 17, 2015, the duo released their second album. It is an art project and is called "Trialog". For their new album, HVOB, together with VJ s lichterloh and the visual artist Clemens Wolf, developed ten trialogues in the disciplines of sound, video and installation. The joint work creates an artistic density through the multitude of counteracting moments, references, inspirations and associations, which makes the album a total work of art. The theme is ten processes, naturally occurring processes, the course of which is documented interactively on three artistic levels: the audio and video recordings of the ten processes of breaking, melting, bending, mixing, bursting, imploding, burning, staged by Clemens Wolf, Oxidation, etching and breaking form the basis of the texts and sounds of the HVOB tracks, the covers and the bright visuals and music videos. Accordingly, the album has ten tracks.
style
Musically, the duo moves between techno and electronica , with HVOB keeping their songs rather minimalist and developing a melancholy atmosphere.
