Kronehit ( spelling : kronehit ) is an Austrian  private radio broadcaster . Kronehit went on air for the first time on June 28, 2001 in Vienna and Lower Austria, and has been available throughout Austria since 2004. The station belongs to the association of Mediaprint , to which u. a. the media includes Kronen Zeitung and Kurier . The program offers a mixture of electro, pop music and dance and serves different music genres with selected special programs and can be received via VHF and online digital radio stations.

The transmitter is located on the Favoritner Gewerbering in Vienna's tenth district.

history

At the time when it started broadcasting as Krone Hit Radio, the station was not legally a broadcaster, but a shell program organized by the owner of the RpN license (Donauwelle) and taken over by twelve other broadcasters. Since the takeover of moderated programs was only allowed to amount to 60 percent of the daily broadcast time under the law of the time, parts of the radio program had to be designed without moderation. In addition, the broadcaster had to produce local news, weather and traffic in each individual local coverage area.

On April 14, 2003 the Krone Hit Radio was renamed Kronehit. After the relaunch, the station was aimed at a younger and above all more female audience. In addition to a complete reorientation of music, moderation, packaging and news, the station primarily relied on promotions to anchor the new image.

Following an amendment to the Private Radio Act on December 8, 2004, the station was the first provider to receive nationwide private radio approval and was subsequently able to expand its network and increase its technical range. By the beginning of January 2018,  KommAustria had  allocated around 140  VHF frequencies to the station throughout Austria. In addition to reception via VHF, Kronehit has around 25 digital radio stations, which are made up of 20 permanent and 5 temporary digital radio stations.

In June 2015 the station received the  Austrian radio prize  in the “Promotion” category for the “Facebook Experiment Reloaded”. In 2017, Kronehit received the Futurezone Award for the "App of the Year" for the "kronehit Smart" app, and the year before, the Austrian radio prize in the "Innovation" category for "kronehit TV".
